Let me start off by saying that Skinceuticals C E Ferulic has been one of my holy grail products for years. For those who are still not familiar, C E Ferulic is a vitamin C serum that provides protection against environmental damage. It also improves signs of aging and helps reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles while simultaneously brightening your complexion. It’s an incredible product with one major downfall, it’s very expensive costing $166 for a bottle.
Now, don’t get wrong. I’m willing to invest in my skin. I’ve obviously made that very known by some of the products I use and the treatments I get. But as I was going to pull the trigger on buying a new bottle, I thought to myself: “you know what. let me see if there’s another, less expensive option out there.” So I did what I typically do: I crowdsourced via Instagram stories. So, here we are. A few people recommend Maelove The Glow Maker and at $28, it was a no brainer. For the sake of research and my wallet, I had to try.
Much like C E Ferulic, The Glow Maker, which by the way, was founded by MIT grads, focuses on hyperpigmentation, smoothing, and hydration. It’s packed with ingredients like vitamins C (15% L-ascorbic acid), E and ferulic acid for antioxidation protection, hyaluronic acid for hydration, and a proprietary mix of botanicals (grape seed extract, aloe, aurantium dulcis, and magnolia) for nourishment. There’s also the addition of extracts which makes the serum better for sensitive skin than most vitamin C serums.
I’ve been using it for about three weeks now. I always use it in the AM, after cleansing and toning and before my hyaluronic acid and SPF. It feels light going on the skin and never leaves a sticky/tacky residue, something I always appreciate in a product. Sadly, a lot of products I try, feel sticky and don’t absorb well. That is not the case with The Glow Maker. It absorbs well and quickly!
In summary, I really do like The Glow Maker. Do I like it as much as C E Ferulic? Hmmm.. probably not. If they were both the same price, I’d purchase the Skinceuticals. However, for $28, the Glow Maker is a really solid vitamin C. My skin definitely feels brighter and “happier” when using it. I’ve also noticed that because of its price tag, I’m a bit more generous with how much I apply to my face, neck and chest. I’ve also heard that you fall into one of two camps: you either really like it or are very unwhelmed by it and I’m in the former category. All that being said, I will definitely be repurchasing, even just to have in my skincare arsenal. I’ll probably also purchase Skinceuticals C E Ferulic again, just to remind myself how much I like it.
Would I recommend The Glow Maker? Absolutely. You just can’t beat the price and it’s a really solid product. Particularly if you’re looking to incorporate a vitamin C into your routine, but don’t want to shell out big bucks. Will I continue to buy Skinceuticals C E Ferulic? Most likely – until I find a better one that comes along.
If you’ve found something you like better than C E Ferulic, please share!! I’m always curious to try. After all, it’s for the sake of research.
