A highly requested review – Favorite fancy shoe in my closet: the Manolo Blahnik Lurum. I figured since we’re in the holiday season and while they’re on sale at Saks, now’s as good a time as any.
Let’s start with one question I often receive, something along the lines of:
“I’m looking to invest in a Manolo Blahnik heel and I’m debating between the Lurum and the Hangisi. Which one would you recommend?”
Obviously this is all completely subjective but if I was forced to pick, I’d pick the Lurum. I should add that in the Hangisi style, I own both the blush and yellow colors in the 105mm height and I love them. And in the Lurum style, I have the black. I asked myself, “Am I picking the Lurum because the black color goes with more?” and while it totally does, that’s not the only reason why I leaned towards this choice. I love that the Lurum style has a slightly pointier front and looks a bit edgier than the Hangisi. I also find them to be the slightest bit more comfortable due to the lower heel. I do know that the Hangisi style does come in a lower 70mm heel, but I really prefer the look and the proportions of the 105mm. Personal preference!
I’m also fully aware that they’re a ridiculously expensive shoe but with time, they’ve proven to be a very worthwhile investment. They add the most beautiful touch to any outfit, whether it’s a pair of jeans or a simple little black dress.
And as I already mentioned, they’re pretty comfortable as far as heels go. I don’t know if one would be able to walk city blocks in them, but they’re slightly better than just being an “Uber shoe” which is basically what I call the footwear that requires complete door-to-door service and a night of minimal dancing. With the Lurum, I can walk, stand and dance for a good portion of the night.
Sizing: They run very small. I wear a US 8.5 and normally take a 39 in most European shoes, including the Manolo Blahnik BB style. In the Hangisi, I take a 39.5 and in the Lurum, I take a 40. So in short, I went a full size up.
I know that the above makes it seem that I don’t love the Hangisi style, but I really do. This is me being forced to pick between the two styles, which is no ease feat.
Lastly, umm… do I need them in light grey?
